The SDSN Youth chapter in the Andean region has a multidisciplinary team from Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The Network Coordinator leads the team and there is at least one student in different education institutions called SDG Coordinator. Each of them represents the network in their institution and promotes the global programs of SDSN Youth. In addition, SDG awareness activities are organized in the community and SDG focused projects are supported by the SDSN Youth team.
Network Coordinator: Nicolás Serrano Palacio
Student of Information Technologies Engineering at Yachay Tech University. His work on the Sustainable Development Goals have been significant. From reducing poverty by building houses for people in vulnerable situations with TECHO Ecuador NGO; to establishing cooperation agreements between student associations and public sector. Initiative developer of “Precious Plastic” in his community and principal researcher in a recycled materials project.
SDG Coordinator at Universidad EAFIT (Colombia): Luisa Grajales
Process Engineering student focused on chemical / biotechnological processes design and researcher on CO2 capture process with aqueous amines. She was been volunteering on multiple social projects on Medellin, she is CLimate Reality Leader and co-founder of “Jovenes y ODS” initiative.
SDG Coordinator at Escuela Politécnica Nacional (Ecuador): Paul Carchipulla
Student of Environmental Engineering at Escuela Politécnica Nacional. He set up the Sustainable Development Club at his campus; and he led the Technical Team that prepared the Technical Report for the support of the Solid Waste Management Citizen Oversight in Quito, Ecuador. One of the most enriching experience in his social labor for the improvement of human life quality was his participation in the Water Quality Study for Rural Communities at the South of Ecuador.
SDG Coordinator at Yachay Tech (Ecuador): María José De la Torre
Maria Jose De la Torre is a fourth-year student of Engineering in Nanotechnology at Yachay Tech University. She is a SDG Coordinator at SDSN Youth Andean Region, focusing on the SDG 7 about affordable and clean energies; she has been involved in the coordination of several activities related with sustainable developement at her community. In addition, she is keen to inspire and commit the young people to be a part of the solution to climate challenges, and believes that science is the powerful global tool to create change.
